  Observing international infection control activities

We visited two facilities involved in infection control: the emergency ward of the Royal Melbourne Hospital and the Victorian Infectious Diseases Reference Laboratory (VIDRL). Established in 1848, the Royal Melbourne Hospital is the oldest healthcare facility in Australia and is the main provider of medical treatment in the greater Melbourne area. The VIDRL plays an important role in infection control as one of the official reference laboratories of the WHO.
